And finally, an update....

So this isn't the large update that I had been promising people long ago, but it's an update nonetheless.  So here is what is going on in my life.

Work seems to have done a complete turnaround.  Business has been booming lately, and it's amazing how busy we are - we even had to hire someone part time because Dave and I just can't keep up with everything.  We just got a new project for a tattoo parlor and we are going to computerize the hell out of the place - the owner is really interested in what he can do with computers.  For us, it's a new type of installation/design with how he wants to arrange things and what he wants to implement.  So far, it's been one interesting project to research so far.

Wedding plans - well, we are still working on the website, which we will eventually get up and running.  Invitations are mostly complete and should be going out shortly. Those have taken some time as they are being custom designed by Adam, in Photoshop.  Not the easiest thing to manage at times.  We have now made the reservations for the B&B, purchased the airplane tickets, and purchased the stones for the rings (it was cheaper to buy them seperately than to purchase them through the ring company themselves).  Next month we will buy the rings themselves, and send the stones up to be put in them.

I've also been adding to my concert list.  I have now seen Fleetwood Mac in concert twice ('97 & '04) and I recently saw Duran Duran when they came through recently.  This Sunday, I am going to see Stevie Nicks & Don Henley in concert.  Adam swears he is in Stevie overload, and just about wants to die.  However, he usually complains about the concerts I have him go to and then he goes on afterwards about how they were so good.  Whatever, I say. :)  Now if I can just catch Blondie in concert, I'll consider myself quite happy.  Of course, I would love to see other concerts, so we will see what 80's band comes back next!! Duran Duran says they are starting a new album in September, so there's another possible one!

I find weekends just don't seem to be long enough these days, yet the weeks also seem to go by decently fast.

In other news, I'm getting digital cable finally, and cable internet.  Out goes SBCYahoo, which sucks like a Hoover, and not in the  good way.

And that, is what is currently going on in my somewhat boring/interesting life.

When you do get cable internet, please let us know how it is in comparision to SBC. It's a bit more expensive than SBC for the monthly fees (if you're using the contract), but it'd be worth it if it actually works consistently. Also, I'd be interested to know if you need to use coaxial cable for the cable internet or not. I'm assuming you would, but I'm not sure. It might make the routing somewhat difficult since routers seem to be designed for RJ-45 twisted pair cables rather than coaxial cables.

so far, the speed increase is wonderful. My 18 Firefox tabs now load in about 1.5 minutes, where before it took 5 (I keep all my online comics and such in it). I had 278 Mbps download, and 315 Mbps upload speed (which is sad in itself - my upload better than download). Anyway, I've had it for a day, and it has been perfect so far. As to connection, it does take a coax cable going into the modem, but it is regular RJ-45 network wire coming out of it and going to your router/computer. I've had good luck so far, but I'll keep an eye on the connection to see about how reliable it is.. I've only heard good things about it from other people, so I hope I get the same experience.

Oh, that explains it. My Linksys router says that it's a Cable/DSL router and I was wondering how it would manage routing a cable modem if it used a coaxial cable since all the connections are for RJ-45 wire.

I suppose what matters is how it works in the long run. For the first few months, our SBC DSL connection worked pretty well, but after I started using the router everything started going downhill. It's gotten better since I gave up on trying to use the router and just went back to connecting directly to the modem, but it still takes forever to connect to my shell account when it used to be instantaneous with dialup.

So are you using the cable modem with a router? Just curious how that's working out if you are since that's something I was wondering about and have had problems with.

I had a similar experience with SBC concerning the speed - except it didn't matter with a router or not (yes, I do have a router - a Linksys one, in fact). I had a period of time where I loaned my router to a family member and just directly connected, and there were no speed differences between using a router/not using a router. I haven't tried not using the router with the cable connection, but everywhere I've seen the installation, it appears just as speedy either way.

Well, it isn't really a matter of speed as much of a matter of getting it to work at all. Once the connection is working, it is definitely fast. But getting it to work is often difficult.

If you decide to try out a router with cable internet, let me know how it works.
