You just gotta love Firefox.  And now there is a nifty extension called Deepest Sender for LJ posting, that I'm trying right now.  Looks pretty good so far.  http://deepestsender.mozdev.org/

Random posting, hmm?  One of these days, I'll actually make a post with something substancial in it.

Is it me, or is that plastic-headed guy (who, I suppose, is supposed to be THE BURGER KING) just plain scary? Those commercials freak me out. The first one I saw, when he was in that guys bed with the crossandwich or whatever, if I woke up to that I think I would die of fright.

Well, it's been almost two months since I last made a post. Can't accuse me of spamming your friends page, that's for sure. But here's what's going on with me, as of lately.

Work
It's been going well, but one slight problem...we are closing down at the end of the year. So I'm off and looking for a new job, trying to find a new one (with the boss' blessing). Hopefully something will turn up soon.

Home

Got two kittens about a month or so ago. I would post pics, but I do need a host (I have no clue if my old Geocities site is still working - I haven't touched it for a very long time, or I could put them there). Caught between going crazy over them because of what they do (making a mess - one just broke my banana tree) or acting cute. :) Got them declawed, and my body thanks me for that - not so much blood loss lately.

And the other night, my apartment building was on fire. First floor, on the opposite side of my apartment. I had just gotten home and saw what I thought at first was a light. Nope. It was the fire breaking the window and coming out of it. So I called 911, and then called Adam and told him to grab the cats and get the flock out. He didn't belive me at first, but he came out, and we had to wait about an hour and a half. The rumor is that the person who "lived" there (I'll explain that shortly) had not properly put out a cigar, which was what caused the fire. I heard this from another resident, not one of the firemen or anything. The other thing is that it is actually an office for a Kuwati airline that arranges for their pilots and flight attendants to stay in hotels due to flight time restrictions. As far as I know, you arent supposed to have an office in your apartment - I saw that in my lease. Maybe they had special arrangments with the complex, I don't know.

Oh. And I finally got a new car. While I loved my Bug, it was falling apart, was starting to have transmission problems, and so we thought we would see what we could get for it. We went to CarMax to look at cars, and next thing I know, I'm buying a new car. Ah well, not a bad thing. It's a 03 Dodge Intrepid. It's much bigger than the bug, but I'm enjoying it.

So that's about it. Not much else to say that I can think of, right now.

And no, the music listed below is not actually what is playing right now, but with what has happened lately, it's been running through my head, you know? :)

Boredom

I find myself very bored lately. I'm not sure why, I just feel like there is nothing to do, although in reality there is plenty that I could do. TV or videos don't interest me much anymore, video games these days are just frustrating - I don't seem to have the patience to sit there and play a level 10 times in a row to get through it anymore. I could read, but I've read all my books multiple times over and they really don't hold any interest for me anymore. I used to be able to sit around all day and do nothing to my hearts content and now I feel I need to be constantly doing something, though what I don't know. Some have said that I need a hobby. Well, reading was one of them - now boring (I could get new books, but I'm broke right now), doing stuff online - now boring, etc. You get the idea. Maybe it was just restlessness over this 4 day weekend I had. I don't know. I did find that I like playing spider solitare - I have much better luck winning it than I did the original solitare.

Posted by request of [livejournal.com profile] rahaeli, and more than willing to do so after what I have heard. Most will probably see this numerous times on various journals, but that isn't a bad thing.

Because I haven't asked this for a while.

Please post your full name, date of birth, full address, and telephone number (plus cell phone number, if you have one) to your journal, as the first chronological entry (backdated) in your journal, with Private security, and leave a note in your userinfo indicating that you've done so. The life you save may be your own. In the event of an emergency, LiveJournal administrators can view this information -- and please believe that it is only used in the event of an absolute emergency. But you'd be surprised how many of those there are on a service with four million users. And in an emergency situation, every second counts.

Yes, the Abuse team occasionally hears of users who plan to commit suicide, but there are other situations where having this information could possibly be of use to the police. There have been, for instance, phone posts that were interrupted by physical violence before, and other such situations. The Abuse team often gets reports of these things, and oftentimes, there is nothing we can do to help, because we can't find you.

Please take a moment of your time and make this post. Your privacy will never be violated except in absolute need, and though we hope it will never be necessary, it could prove to be very necessary indeed.

Alright. So I'm going to make one of these things...I think they call them "entries". I'm not quite sure, I haven't done one in a while. :)

Enough silliness for the moment.

So, life. Plunging along, working, basically. Work has been good lately, and very busy. Got a raise and went full time about a month ago, for those who don't know..though I think anyone that I talk to more or less already knows that.

Eh. And now the brain goes dead. I had things to talk about, but they escape me now.

Ah. Finally chose artwork for the new apartment. I forget the artist's name, but he was selling these watercolor paintings along with some acrylic ones..anyway, we got two nice ones.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3739363514 and http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3739363709

Both look very cool - I liked them instantly when I saw them. I suppose it dosen't hurt that in the one picture, the moon looks like Pac-man, and in the other, could be one of the ghosts. But that's just me. And speaking of video games, I was at a used cd store today, which also does video games, and someone had brought in an Atari 2600 with a chunk of games, the original joysticks, and the paddles. I was really close to purchasing it - but at $64, I couldn't...that was the same price they were selling GameCubes for..if I'm buying a game system, it's going to be the newer one, regardless of how much I like the older systems. I still need to get a SNES...mine died about two months ago now, which isnt bad, considering I got it the year it came out, so thats like at least 10 years ago..and I belive longer than that. But I still have all those games I like to play for it, and I enjoy them too much to let it go.

Other than that, not much else new. Eh. I'm boring. and I suddenly feel a little woozy for some reason I don't know. I think i should go to bed.

Alright.. I'm moving, and the computer goes down tonight. I won't have internet until at least July 1st, but I might be able to get online at work, so we will see. Otherwise, I'll see you all in July.

Alright, so here's a rarity from me: a post. I think it's been more than a month since the last. So here's the rundown.

Moving: 9 more days till we move. Can't wait. The rain we have had up here, along with the falling trees, is exponentially increasing the number of ants we have in the house - much more than last year. We have gone on rampages trying to get them all - moving everything, running the sweeper, etc. And still they keep coming. A good chunk of stuff is packed already, so that's going along well. Still got to get rid of some old computer stuff and pack the rest..and of course, we need boxes. Need to call Kinko's tomorrow and see about that.

Work: Oh dear god, did we just get busy. Everyone suddenly wants new computers, or computers fixed, and we have two major projects, and maybe a third one on the way. It's good that it got busy, I'm not complaining about that part. It's just that it's all at once. :) And the power issues involved with trying to run 3 servers, 4 work computers, and up to 4 other computers at once - talk about a precarious balance.

Ok, so it's yet another short post. I never seem to have the really long stories that others do, or the interesting lives either. And I don't exactly have funny stories to tell, as I don't do much outside of work by the time I get home. I could tell stories about work, but I would have to explain all about my clients (that's where our funny stories come from).

Aha. Thought of another topic (though I really need to get to bed..but I need to post when I actually have content!). Music. Normally, my musical tastes run all over the place...60's, 70's, 80's, some 90's, and less of the 2000's, Motown, a little country, etc. You get the picture. Mainly what I listen to is 80's though, and I'm afraid to say that I'm getting just a bit tired of it. Amazing, to say the least...I've been listening to this stuff for years as I "rediscovered" it - or more accurately, I found out who sang what, found some songs I knew but had forgotten, and collected the CD's & mp3's. So I'm running out of music to listen to. I'm trying to find out things I want to listen to, but it's really hard with the way music has gone these days. I miss the dance music of my high school years (I don't remember enough titles or group names to collect the songs). I listen to the radio, and I usually don't like what I hear. Now I recently tried out Evanensence, which was ok, though I absolutely love My Immortal. Modest Mouse had a commercial on today for their latest album @ Target..they were playing a nice song too, but I don't know if that's what all their music is like. [livejournal.com profile] spratt, I belive that you were someone who liked them, can you tell me if they would be something I like? I seem to like the slower, mopey, ballady songs, it seems. I don't know what else to try though. I need to find groups similar to what I already like - I just need new music. It does not have to be a 80's band making a comeback, though it dosen't hurt if it is. :) I don't know - I just really don't care for the current music..

So, in short, I'm taking suggestions. Please. Anyone. Anything. I will try listening to songs at least 1-2 times before passing an absolute judgement on it. (I sometimes listen to just part of a song before turning it off, and then later find that I really do like it.)

Well, let's see. I went home to Texas for a bit to fix the computer for my parents. Got to see a few of my friends, which was nice. Fixed up the network easily enough. I also got a free notebook out of the deal, which I am currently using whenever I can. In fact, I am now sitting on my couch, watching Adam play video games, and messing around on the internet at the same time. I love it.

Right now, I am just really tired. I guess maybe it is due to the flying around thing this weekend. I didn't think that it would be that big of a deal, but I guess so - I've been sleeping like the dead lately.

Um. Oh, I hate this. I have stuff I mean to write about and then I go and forget what it is that I wanted to say. I suppose there might be another post later, then.
chipb0i: black background, blurry lights, text saying "go then, there are other worlds than these" from Stephen King's Dark Tower (Default)
Well, we found out the other day that we definetly have our new apartment. So that's done with. Saturday we go to clean out some of Adam's storage locker so when we start packing stuff up in May (or maybe a bit later, seeing as how we don't move until the end of June) we can go ahead and take it up there and store it there so that there isn't so much of it to do all at once. This will be all the non-necessary stuff that is hanging around at the moment.

Hmm. I could have sworn that I had more to say earlier, but I guess I forgot about it again. I really need to start writing stuff down when I think about it.
chipb0i: black background, blurry lights, text saying "go then, there are other worlds than these" from Stephen King's Dark Tower (Default)
Alright. So I don't post that much in here. I used to - I tried to make it a point to post every so often, but my life isn't exactly what you call exciting. Let's see.. latest stuff going on, still waiting on moving - I wish it could be tomorrow, I would love to get out of this place, but that won't be happening.

The Gateway store I used to work at is closing - actually, all of the stores are - Gateway and eMachines merged, and now they decided that since eMachines has the retail market already, they don't need the stores (and it didn't help any that the stores weren't making a lot of money). So there goes the people there. However, I did go and take advantage of the clearance sale there - I got a nice little 2.1 surround sound system for $15. It retails for $99. Which means I probably paid the actual price for it, because you know how much things get marked up at retail stores. And having worked at Gateway, I saw the markups.

Eh. Random enough? :)

I am also setting up a couple of new computers - all free parts - I got motherboards from a friend and one at work that is no longer used (and is pretty old, but it is a P3 500, so that's not too bad) that I am setting up. I hope to actually get the other one setup and have it as a actual network server, and do IIS and all that stuff. That would be very, very cool. More stuff for me to play with, you know? :) So that puts us up to 4 computers total in the house.

And I suppose everyone has seen the ToysR'Us easter commercial? I hope so - it is too cute for words. I found a site and downloaded it so I can watch it whenever.

And for my friends who watch ER, did you not see that coming at the end of the show, the part with Carrie? Uh-huh. :/

Hmm. What to do now, is the question. I went to sleep early last night because I was so tired. I have tomorrow off, so nothing to do except buy cards and ship overnight, as usual. Going to have to do that early. I swear, I send enough stuff overnight, the Post Office should never have to raise stamp rates.

I haven't done one of my deep thought posts in a long time, like I was doing back in the very beginning of my journal. Those were also some very rambly entries, not making much sense after a bit. I've never been really good expressing most of my thoughts - I always know what I want to say, but how to say it is an entirely different matter. Usually, it involves writing something, and then revising it many times over, constantly re-reading it. There is only one thing I can think of that I ever wrote that only took 1 rewrite. And that was to fix one sentence. It was a letter I wrote to Adam on Valentines Day, the first year we met. Don't really remember what I said, but it was the absolute right thing to say, it seems. :)

Hmm. I just had an idea for one..I will have to play around with it to see if I can make it coherent and if so, I'll post it.

It appears now that it is 2:51 AM, as I type, put together computers, munch on cookies, and visit various sites. I suppose I will end this post here.

Or, with a couple of additions:

One - Kill Bill, Volume 1 comes out on DVD on the 12th, I belive. Volume 2 hits theaters later that week. I will be there shortly after it comes out to see it. :) Two - Blondie's latest album, The Curse of Blondie, came out this past Wednesday. It's getting great reviews, and also, Debbie Harry will be performing on the next VH1 Divas program, which I belive will be this week?

Sam's Club. Dear lord, is that place fun to shop in. Decided that it had been long enough, and went and got a membership there tonight. I haven't been in one of those places for so long, it was like being a kid in a candy store. Got some bottled water for starters, seeing as how we can't really drink the toxic stuff coming out of our pipes..damn well water. Also got a couple other things - found a couple of things we wanted at a really good price that we certainly couldnt get at the store normally. Of course, this means that we have a box of 80 taquitos, so they will also last forever!! :) Thats the only problem. Where to put all the stuff?!
chipb0i: black background, blurry lights, text saying "go then, there are other worlds than these" from Stephen King's Dark Tower (Default)
Eh, well, it's really not much of one, since my life is boring. Anyway.

Have been looking at new apartments. This one has been nice, but at the same time isn't so great. So we went off looking for apartments, and found a few that are closer to work for both of us. Right now, we are pretty much decided on this one: Apartment

Click on floorplans, then click on the A3 floorplan - that's the one we looked at-it is the only one available right now.

Other than that, just been working and such. Not much else new going on. Sigh.
chipb0i: black background, blurry lights, text saying "go then, there are other worlds than these" from Stephen King's Dark Tower (Default)
Ok. I'm being stubborn here. I am frustrated enough to give up, but I want to figure out linux already. But I don't know it well, and I need help.

Anyway, we are trying to set up a computer so that if a switch (it's a SMC) goes down due to power outage, when it comes back up it can load it's config file from it, using TFTP. Now I've been trying to figure this out with 8 previously, but there were some issues with the version I had (the updater wouldn't work) and I couldn't figure out how or where to install TFTP. I've tried looking on the web for instructions, but nothing very relevant came up (one came up, but it was for a Cisco router).

So now I have downloaded the image files for RH9, and I'm going to try again. Does anyone know of a webpage that will tell me what/how I need to do this, or can someone even tell me how (if it isn't too long or complicated a process)? I know enough to basically get linux up and running, but that's about it so far.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated on this.
